Two otters face each other nose to nose, their bodies curving together into a single round shape, tails entwined below, a composition that is simultaneously a portrait of devotion and a quietly perfect piece of painting. The detail in the fur is remarkable at this scale: every whisker, the soft white chest markings, the warmth of the rich brown coat rendered with complete confidence. Otters hold hands while they sleep so they don't drift apart. This hand-painted watercolour card knows exactly what it means. Hand-painted in watercolour in my London studio.
