Two king penguins lean into each other, beak to beak, forming a gentle arch of companionship — painted in the deep charcoal blacks, pure whites and vivid golden-orange of the species with a looseness and fluency that gives the card real movement. The watercolour technique is particularly evident here: the way the grey washes shift and pool, the expressiveness of the minimal linework. King penguins mate for life.
